Welcome to Common Sense For Okemos, a site created to allow like minded individuals to speak out and advocate for fiscal responsibility in the Okemos School District. The pressing issue of the day, and the current focus of our attention, is the upcoming Technology and Transportation bond election on May 8th, 2007. In May of 2006, voters resoundingly defeated the previous proposed technology millage election. Now only one year later, we're spending over $100,000 to pay for a bond attorney and run another election! The administration and School Board are asking you once again to support the same issue.
If you are paying attention, you cannot miss what people who are in favor of the bond are saying. Dissenting voices aren't as many or as loud. Many times people won't speak up, outside of private conversations, because they fear that they or their children will be ostracized. I believe that people who support the bond do so with the best of intentions, however people who oppose it are honorably motivated too. It is a shame that good people won't speak out for fear of retribution. This site gives a voice to those people.
Information is presented here to make the case against passage of the bond. Please have a look around and form your own opinion. People who arrive at the conclusion that the bond is a bad idea are encouraged to have their thoughts posted in the Public Comments area, anonymously if desired. Just click on the Contact Us link.
